Can not get motor to run on my 81 vette,Put in new pro comp coil & distributor, this is a 383 motor that been in for 4 years , Did remove the ccc in this car, neever had any problems till now, this is a 4 speed car,Is their something i am over looking.P.S. i put back the old pro com coil & distributor still no fire to distributor.
Well, since we have no information to go on except that there's power to the coil, we need to start with the basics. Is there gas in the tank? How about in the carb?
Lots of stuff to check. Broken cam at the cam gear end is a possibility as long as the hot wire to the distributor is good. Does the distributor shaft rotate as the motor is turned over?
Have you confirmed that the rotor is turning with the motor? If the gear on the back end of the cam is stripped your distributor won't turn and it would act the way it's acting. If that's OK I'd be checking ignition box and/or the wiring to the distributor.
I'm guessing its an HEI dist system. Check the ignition module in the distributor. Did the new dist. come with one? Mine quit like that & I found one of the 2 wires broke off , No spark to plugs. Dead on the road.
If I'm reading this right??????
Sounds like you only have power to the coil/distributor when the key is in the start position, did you put a remote solenoid on it by chance?

Open the cap and check everything. Check the contacts inside the cap and the bug electrodes for good continuity, spacing etc... If it has 12V going to the dist with the key on, and no fire at the cap to the plug wires and everything internally checks out then it sounds to me like a bad module. You said you pulled the CCC, but did you do that before you replaced the distributor? In other words, do you have an old module laying around that is not computer controlled that you could plug in for a test? Or just run down and get one. Its gotta be obvious once you track it down. You also need to check for an open in the coil.
