427th post ! - The Legendary Big Block....
Here are my top 10 reasons why the "427" engine RULES ! ! ! :chevy
Reason #10 - The mystery engine - Mark II was a 427 (before 396)
Reason #9 - They offered 7 combos. w/427 in 1968
Reason #8 - Engine used to capture several #1 wins in the GT class (66-69)
Reason #7 - The "427" was used in the big, bad L-88's !!!
Reason #6 - Engine used in the Mako Shark II (concept of the C3)
Reason #5 - Only engine available with Tri-Power.
Reason #4 - The biggest most powerful engine available in the 60's :chevy
Reason #3 - First aluminum engine was a "427" (ZL-1, 1969)
Reason #2 - 435hp, the highest production "HP" rating ever given to a vette
and <drum roll, please> :jester
The Number #1 Reason : '427' Just sounds COOL !

This video should be required viewing for anyone on this forum who asks any of these questions:
"What's a big block?"
"Is a big block really that different?"
"I wanna go fast. Should I drop in a big block?"
"So what's the big deal about big blocks anyway?"

Also, I think in IHRA & maybe NHRA during the late-60's : stock and superstock classes were limited to 427 cubic inches.... thus the 426-hemi is more popular than the 440cid and Ford had to make a 427 for this reason (the 428 Cobra-Jet would not have been 'legal').... Of course Grumpy Jenkins fooled some people at the 1968 Winternat'ls. by running a slightly bored over 427...making a 428 ?!? - who knows -it's history & 427 's Rock !
