Default kick panel

this may be a dumb question, the passenger side kick panel on my '78 is 100% covered in carpet. Should it be covered or trimmed for the air vents? It has been this way for 25 years. Thanks,

my 78 had the kick panels covered in carpet too. when i redid the interior, i didn't re-carpet the new kick panels, even though the new carpet set included those pieces. it may have been a factory option in 78 to make it more luxurious. are the kick panels in good shape otherwise? do your air vents work?

the air ducts open and close, just wondering where the inside air would come from and if opening the sick panel would increase air flow.

they may only bring in more hot engine air, which is why some have sealed it closed.

I just redid the interior in my '81 and I installed 6 1/2" speakers in the kick panels. I wondered about the vent thing as well but figured the speakers would sound much better there than in the dash.
