Default 69 Heater/ac box

I have a 69 coupe. I am trying to finish the assembly. The car was partially assembled by someone else. Yesterday I was starting to put the windshield wiper door in when I looked down between right fender and the cowl and noticed that I could see the squirrel cage for the fan. I could put my hand down there and spin the fan. Is there something that should be covering it or is part of the heater box missing? Would appreciate any help I can get. I'm sure this will be one of many questions to come. Thanks in advance for your help.

Something is missing. The fan should be enclosed within the housing. Post a pic of what you've found.

Default Similar issue

I just cleaned out 10 years of leaves and one pushrod out of my fresh air vents and repaired the seals in the fresh air doors. I have a gap on both sides that runs through the inside fender down to the fresh air seal. I'm guessing that is the Astro Ventilation that feeds the interior? I pulled my heater core and box, but the fan is still there. I was wondering if there was a cover or something besides the wiper door to keep out the leaves?

The fan cage is visible by looking between the fender and the cowl. Should something be there to cover it?

Fuelie,
Stand back a little bit and take your first picture again. I just realized the pic shows the backside of the fan. How did you manage to get the pic? There should be fiberglass there.

Mike,
I tried to stand back, actually standing in the car to get the picture. The only way to get that picture was to stick the camera between the firewall and the fender. That is what you are looking at. That's why I thought there should be a piece of fiberglass on top of the fan directing the air into the interior of the car. Also routing the rain water away from the fan. The fan is right before the flap that opens and closes the heater box.

Not exactly the same angle. Obviously the fender and hood surround panel are not installed on this car.

Blower fan and squirrel cage are in front of the firewall. Kick panel door and AC flapper door would otherwise be covered with the fender and hood surround panel.

Should the fan be exposed like that?

from the direction you are looking in the first picture the fan is easily visible.
it does show how easy it is to get leaves in the fan and blown into the evaporator or heater core.
thank you for the pictures one day i hope to put in the a/c door on the plenum and these show just how it fits.
