Well if I gonna have to drop the tank I will have to wait, I bet thats about 1/2 to an all day job thats above my head so I will have to take it to a shop.
Obviously gettin' to the sender is more difficult on your car than it is on my '69 but droppin' the tank isn't really bad after the fuel is removed. I'm sure you could do it if you tried.
Good luck in whatever you decide!

When the time comes try it thorugh the top. If you see its too difficult go with the tank removal.
The gauge being pegged (to 3 o'clock) out would indicate the ohms input is missing and not the grounds.
This could be a defective sending unit, a sending unit that is not making grounding contact a broken ohms wire.
Again, to test the gauge, pull the input wire off the sender and see if the gauge goes to full, then ground out this wire and see if it goes to empty. (on oil pressure and fuel gauges). If the gauge works in this fashion then look at the sending unit.
Well guys I sent my radio off to get repaired, I was without it for six weeks but UPS deliverd it today around 9:00am on my day off. I spent the rest of the day putting it back in along with the new center consol, gauge cluster, shift ball and button and ash tray door. I had to do a little repair to the passenger side console side carpet, it was about to rip in two. I did this by buying new boards and then I cut about three inches off the passenger side of the new one at the thinnest part where mine was ripping and used Al Knoch interior adhesive to bind it to the back of the old board. worked like a charm. I was just going to get new carpet for the new boards but could not find any that could match my 30 year old carpet.
I like to thank everyone that helped me with my gauge problems, you guys saved me some money and I had fun doing this on my own. You guys
