Default Fuel mixture problem

The 79 i bought has an electric holly fuel pump on it. It is blue and noisey. There is an adjustment valve between the pump and the carb. I kept having problems starting the car. So I changed the plugs. The car fired right up, but the old plugs looked like they were badly coated with grease. I had a manual fuel pump on my 78 and never had this problem. Is the pump going to keep fouling plugs. What is a reasonable price to have the gas flow set properly? I have never had an elec. fuel pump. Or should i just put the manual off the 78 on the car? :conehead

If the plugs are fouling then first find out why. It could be oil fouling. Could be something less severe like bad valve seals causing oil fouling. Never heard of a fuel pump causing fouling. The fuel pump just delivers the fuel to the carb. Its the carbs responsibilty to manage the fuel. Carbon fouled plugs cause by bad carburation would be a dry black sooty deposit. The discribtion of fouling you mention leans more to the oil side. Hows the oil consumption? Do you need to add oil often?

I have not had the car long enough to know if it's using oil? So just take it to a shop and let them find the problem? I hope my oil rings or valves don't need to be replaced. I don't have the money for anything major right now. Thanks for the help. :conehead
