"53Annv03" can't get to his PC now, but he is fighting with his 1981. He has discovered his rocker arm stud is pulling out of the #3 intake. It appears these are press fit  .
What are his repair options? Can he peen the stud and pound it back in? Oversized studs (.003" or .013") are available, but you have to ream the hole 1st.
I'm sure he will check this thread very soon... Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
Re: Rocker arm stud pulling out on Stock 1981! HELP! (chuck1026)
If it's pulling out I'd tap and put a screw in stud and I might think about just doing them all. If one is pulling out the others might not be far behind.

If it is that loose he could pull it all the way out and replace with a screw in stud. We used to drill and pin them at the base to keep them from pulling out. Pioneer makes inexpensive screw in studs. Not like you would use with guide plates. They are just threaded on both ends. You pull your studs, tap the hole, screw in the stud with some red loctite.

You may find smoeone that can pin the stub while the head is on the motor. For screw in studs the head needs to be pulled for machining. Pinning the stud requires drilling through the stud boss then into the press in stud. Then insert a piece of piano wire or a roll pin (most be press fit) to lock the stud in place. You can find the procedure in some of the chevy engine rebuild books

Back in the 'shade-tree' days if a stud started pulling out we would; (1) use a brass drift and punch it back down and (2) get a sharp punch and 'stake' the stud at the base around the head. Obviously screw-ins are the way to go, but this will work. :chevy

Thanks guys! Since 53Annv03 can only access the Forum at work, I spoke with him and relayed your advice. I think he's gonna try the shadetree fix (dome the stud and pound it back in) for now. I bet he pins them all in later. I'm sure he will give us all a full report on Monday :) .

Good morning guys, got the C3 back up and running. Had a small sunny dry window to cruise to the local hot dog stand and join fellow SCC members and forum members on Sunday.
Ended up removing the stud and peened the sides around the top of the insert depth with a sharp nail-set. Put it back in, reset the lifter, and she sounds like a sewing machine again......
I will most likely pin them in the future, but until then I'm not pushing the engine until it is up to running temperature.
