Default 81 Steering valve

My friend has an 81 and he rebuilt the steering control valve because he was in the process of rebuilding (Mid America rebuilding kit) and freshening up the front suspension. No problem with valve before but now after rebuilding there is a problem. The steering is erratic in that it is very hard when turning left and yet easy turning right(almost too easy)
Any ideas?

You nedd to balance the valve.

Remove the dust cap and you can access to the bolt for balance.

Put the car on jack stand(be carefully) disconnect the piston rod to the frame and start the car.
DON'T PUT YOUR ARMS BETWEEN THE STEERINg SPOKE.

When the car is running if the piston (power steering cylinder) rod will remain retracted. If this happens, turn the adjusting nut clockwise until the rod begins to move out. Then turn the nut counter clockwise until it stop.

If the piston start to extend, move the move the nut counterclockwise until the rod begins to retract.

Try to push in and out (with the engine on) the piston you will have to feel the same "torque" to do it.

Sorry for my poor english !!

For me it's to easy operate on the car instead to write.

Ciao.
