Someone recently commented on my engine, saying the PCV valve was on the wrong side of the engine. Hmmm, didnt think it mattered, I know the stock location was on the passenger side but does it matter? Obviously I figured the crankcase was venting regardless what side it was on and mine is now on the drivers side. I don't claim to know everything but would like some futher confirmations either way.
I don't think it matters. I think it has more to do with where the vacuum is coming from and how you want the hoses to run. Mine is on the passenger side though.

The vacuum is coming off the front of the carb. I never had an issue where it is now, been there for 3 seasons since the engine was rebuilt but somebody now planted the seed of doubt in my head Ig uess I dont fully understand the full function of the system.
On my '77 L82 the valve is plumbed into the carb. from the drivers side valve cover. The fresh air intake comes from the air cleaner that has a tube that hooks into the pass. side valve cover. I think the most effective system draws air into one cover and sucks it out through the PCV from the opposite cover. As far as function goes, does not matter which is which. mike...
No, not certain, thought so. Going by memory, but this thing has had 2 engines since then. As I recall I thought it was on passenger side and plumbed into the air cleaner via a metal pipe????
YUP, thats how it was, my memory aint what it used to be. The metal pipe going into the air cleaner had nothing to do with the PCV valve. Geez, it's been awhile since I saw a stock engine. Thanks Guys for clearing that up. My PCV valve is where it supposed to be and on the passenger side I run a breather in the valve cover!!
