Default Electrical Problem 1970

Hi Guys,

I need a little expertise. I'm putting the electrical harnesses back in and I have a QUESTION. With the wires connected to the starter, I have 12 volts to the upper battery connection. Are there also supposed to be 12 volts on the R terminal with the purple wire?

Thanks

Ron

If you are talking about the purple wire to the little stud to the starter you should get 12v when you turn the key.

12v 24-7 on the large terminal
the R terminal will have 12v with the key in the ON position
the S terminal ,closest to the block ,with purple wire will have 12 v ONLY when the key is in the START or crank position , clutch in or shifter in park or neutral.

Thanks Pete
The OP ask about the term with wires hooked up.
He also seemed to be pairing the R and the purple which is incorrect.

If the wires are connected and you use a test light.

the R terminal will have 12v with the key in the ON position AND IN THE START POSITION.

If the wire is removed from the R term the R term will only have voltage in the start position.

I didn't go in to detail for fear of confusing what I thought the OP was looking for, test light testing of the terminals with all wires connected.
