:seeya I just found Corvetteforum a couple days ago. I have spent quite a bit of time reading the posts. I'm impressed!
When I was sixteen a friend joined the Air Force, and put his '61 Vette up for sale for $1,500.00 (those were the days). I wanted that car so much, but my parents wouldn't let me buy it. Of course, I might have been able to pay for the car but never could have afforded the insurance. From that day forward I dreamed of owning a Vette. Last June (35 years later) my dream came true when I purchased my '78.
It needs some work, but I think working on it is half the fun of owing it. I am currently replacing the carpet, and have a couple questions.
1) How do you replace the carpet on the door panels, and what do you do about the map pockets? My set just came with extra material to be used on the doors.
2) How do you replace the carpet on the compartment doors in the rear.
I would appreciate any information you could give me. I apologize if these questions have been answered in the past!
Sorry no help on the carpet replacement....although you might try http://www.corvettefaq.com , lots of how to articles there.
WELCOME...you'll soon become addicted to this place.....it rocks, and makes owning a vette much more enjoyable, because you can always find information on how to do this or do that and in better detail than most manuals provide....plus just a lot of cool people and cool cars here.
Welcome Indy year 25 Both those projects are actually very easy. I'll let the other 78 owners chime in as I type a whole bunch and then realized there might be a lot of difference between the 77 and 78. I removed both and did them on the bench. :)

Hey, That's my story! :D Exactly samething happened to me only in 1970 and it was a '62 NOM I wanted to buy. :yesnod: $1,500 too! I could kick myself for listening to my mother. Instead I bought a '67 Firebird Formula 400, not quite the same.
I do not have answers to your questions as I bought door panels and the rear door lids with the carpet already installed. So this is just a note to say welcome to the Forum!
To replace the carpet on the rear compartment doors you have to remove the plastic rings around the outside of each door. (Some members have taken a exacto knife and cut the carpet just inside the plastic ring, then cut the new carpet very carfully to fit tight to the ring.) The rings are made of plastic and are very brittle. The will probable break taking them off. New rings are around $20.00 for the set of three. The carpet is glued on so you will have to scrape the old carpet off and glue the new carpet on. Then replace the rings with small countesrunk screws.
I replaced the entire side door panels so I can't help with them.
Zora_rules........Thanks! I checked out http://www.corvettefrq.com. Lots of interesting information, but not what I am after.
1970 Stingray......I always said "everyone has a Corvette story". Surprised to find that we share one! At least you ended up with a Formula. I ended up with a '65 Corvair. Of course, I would like to have that Corvair now. Also had a 57 Chevy, 70 Chevelle and 71 Z28 I would like to have back! :chevy
Pete79L82.....Thanks for the info. I will look for new rings. One of mine is already broken with a piece missing. I think the carpet was replaced once before, and the person broke it, and gave up leaving the original carpet on the doors.
Anyone out there with experience changing the carpet on '78 door panels?
