I'll be adding dual exhaust probably in the next couple of months, so I also want to get new mufflers, seeing as how mine are starting to corrode through. Anyway, I don't have a lot of money to spend, so i'm looking at these two:
KBD Targas for $130, '75-77; from ecklers, #A4238 http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?d...&pf%5Fid=A4238
Monza mufflers for $130, '79-82; from mid america, #603-922
sorry, no link
Which one is better in terms of fit and ease of installation? I'll be adding probably 2.5" dual exhaust.
Can't comment on the KBD but I have the Monzas installed on my '81.
They did require some small modifications. I had to cut about 2" on each side of the rear Y-pipe.
Then I took the car to a muffler shop and had all the pipes welded to make everything look good and tight.

Re: KBD targas vs. Monza twin tips (Buffalo Dude)
I have a set up the ones shown in the link -- the "targas" or non-muffler version. Mine are from Pacesetter, and are the non-muffler version.
On my 1980 with the stock L-48 motor they had a nice mild rumble. When I went to the ZZ4 motor they became much louder. Some may say too loud. Not quite "Harley" loud -- but getting there. I like them, others have said they like the sound, and other have said they are too loud.
The ONLY complaint I have is when I have the windows up and tops on. They have a resonant sound that echo's in the rear area of the car. I have the fast back window and that is probably a near perfect sound chamber for that bass note of the exhaust. At highway speeds it can be tiresome -- but that is why I have a loud radio ..... :D
I like the sound and don't plan on changing anytime soon.

:D ...THAT is what I wanted to ''hear''!! (no pun intended!!)....I can ''live'' with the resonance..like you said....can always play the radio ''LOUD''!
I've apparently got the Monza type from Mid America. I prefer the KBD coz they kick up at the back. Looking at the pic of the KBD ones, the bend in the pipe on the P.side looks different to the one in the d.side pipe. This is a GOOD thing - I'm having problems getting my p.side muffler to sit right. I've just had 2" chopped out of the "L" shaped pipe that comes with it & tried to fit it last night. It is still sitting at the wrong angle. I've got 2.5" dual pipes as well, so I don't know if the problem is with the Monzas or with the duals. The left muffler fitted on OK within a few mins, comes out the back nice & level & pointing straight back. The right muffler tilts inwards & won't sit level :mad
They sound nice, resonance isn't really a problem (the GF's MGB is louder inside) & as for sound volume - I don't think they're loud enough on idle (but they're good at WOT :D )
I talked with my parents and they think that it'll be too loud, so it looks like I have to look for somewhere else to upgrade. Thanks for everyone's input :chevy
Also, i'll be looking for dual exhaust pipes so if you have some input on that(especially '74-75s) I'll post the link to the other topic soon.
