I just got my T/As, u-joints, shocks and rear bushings installed in my 79. I have not put the new bushingsing in the front. Do I need to wait to get the 4 wheel alignment? I don't drive it very much. I did take it out on the freeway and it didn't put one way or another. Thanks Jim
I had trouble finding a place to do my alignment because of the IRS. The only place who would touch it was a local corvette place who wanted $200 or $250. They did a shi-tee shi-tee job (that was Corvette City in Highland Park, Illinois). So I bought myself $200 worth of alignment tools, and from now on I'm doing it myself. If you want anything done right do it yourself, or pay through the nose to someone with a good reputation. An alignment shop is just going to put it in the factory spec range. If you do it yourself you can set it to YOUR desired specs, and then you'll know where it's at, and you can play around with other specs as well. I got Longacre Racing alignment gear and I'm very pleased with the quality.
I just throw two 90 pound sacks of cement in the drivers seat at the local Big O's tire shop and they have a total computer optical setup and they set it to what ever I want for under $70. They even used to have some kind of a six month warranty so I used try several different settings durring the six month period. Bring the boy's in a case of beer on Fridays always helps also!
always get the front and rear done. You will know the difference. This should be done after you replace the parts if you do any disassembly of the rear suspenion. Cheap insurance.

Thats a cryin shame - the local. shop that I use (and have used for almost 20 years now) actually asks me before they begin if I want any special settings. These guys have aligned every car I have ever owned including an Austin Healy 3000 - which other shops just looked at me crosseyed about (has something to do withthose elbow shocks)
Anyway my present Shop Bee-Line charges about $70 for a 4 wheel. Shame that kind of quality service is becoming difficult to find.
Bee-Line automotive - on the edge of Pacific Beach - take 5 south to Balboa exit. turn left on Balboa - U-turn at 1st light (Moraga I think)
Bee Line is on the right hand side just past the overpass and before the I-5 south cloverleaf.
These guys are terrific - they have one guy who does the vettes and he can quote alignment specs from memory. Thier work is always top notch
Thanks for the referral. I just put new GR t/a's on and had the front aligned. waited on the rear to install poly bushings in struts. will be installing this weekend and will need to get the alignment done.
I had my alingment done at a body shop/Garage near me. They were recomended and do lots of frame work due to collisions. They did charge me around 300 dollars to do the complete alingment but it was well worth it. I felt comfortable leaving them my car seeing as how the owner of the shop had lots of experience with his own corvettes in the past. They didnt have any problem aligning it to the specs I wanted either he just made sure I knew that it wasent going to handle like most cars because it was more of a racing setup.
I drove the car alot before the alingment too and the difference was awsome in how it tracked and handled the corners.
