Default Weather Strip replacement help requested

I have acquired new weatherstrip for the forward and rear side windows and the door to body. I'm seeking advice on the best methods to remove and replace. Additionally, what adhesive do you guys recommend? BTW, this is for my 1981.

Thanks in advance.

Removal = elbow grease. I am not aware of any solvents that help, however, once the old w/s is off, paint thinner will help remove the old glue.

Install = 3M w/s adhesive is an A+++. Read and follow the directions on the box. Works for me every time.

P.S. ...3M weatherstrip adhesive comes in BLACK as well as the standard snot-yellow color...use the black if you can get it.

Make sure you wipe the new weatherstrips with rubbing alcohol first.

Alan71 has a nice write-up (with pics) on this subject.

This is the release agent and glue that you need. Check the former on your paint (out-of-the-way) before using. Normally it is fine but it does not hurt to check.

3M cement and remover. The remover works slowly, so be patient. It will not eat paint.

The AIM helps when installing new weatherstripping.

I just did this.. replaced ALL weatherstripping on my 78. It's just a lot of hard labor to remove all the old stuff. I ended up having to use a plastic scraper on a lot of it.

Your doors probably won't close and your windows won't roll up after you put it in. Relax, though. The rubber will "form" within a week or two and everything will be back to normal.
