New Valve Seals
Ok, need some help here. Going to change out the valve seals on the 1979 350. I know there are a couple types and plan on going with the umbrella style (along with the added o-ring???) Anyways they seem to be made of various types of material and some come with external metal bands that say the head needs to be machined to use. Some show the seals with bands with no mention of machine work. Another site said the heads may already be machined from the Chevy. So what has anyone had any experience with and what would you suggest? Also parts numbers would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

I changed mine out, used the umbrella seals and the o-rings. Got mine from advance Part No. SS10058. pretty easy change out once I got the right spring compressor. The old ones were all broken up in the heads, and oil pan. They were like hard plastic, guess the original ones were not ment to last 30 years.

Agreed with above "umbrella type with O rings, I use ether of the spring compressors, one is a long bar type that you screw on the stud, and the other compresses the spring, both are pretty good,Ron
