Default Correct Flywheel

I've got a 69, L-46,A/C,M20,3.55 coupe.
Looking at the 1969 assembly manual, I see that the correct clutch for this package is the 10.4 inch unit.
The problem is that upon disassembly, the clutch is 11 inch and the and flywheel is part number 3789733 which was shown to be intended for the 427's this year.
I figured that in the past, an earlier owner swaped the 10.4 out for the 11 inch flywheel, clutch and starter.
The catch is the casting date for the flywheel is 3209, which is the month the block, heads and intake were cast for this car.
The tank sheet does not show what clutch was ordered with this car.
The question is: were the larger/heavier 11" clutches/flywheels offered with the SBC L-46,A/C cars this year?
Let me know what you think, thanks.

Default Flywheel

I'm afraid I can't positively answer your question if 11" clutches were offered in L46 A/C cars.
But I am pretty sure that the 10 1/2" and 11" clutch pressure plates use the same bolt pattern on the flywheel.

My guess is that your flywheel is original to your car because of the cast date and if you want to put in a 10 1/2" clutch it should bolt right up.

In a word, yes.

Rick Bizzoco's book, 1969 Stingray Guidebook states:

"The standard Corvette clutch used with 350 and 427 cu in engines was an 11 in (OD) clutch with a semi-centrifugal spring and a single disc. The surface area was 123.7 sq in.

Both the 350 and 427 used the same 11 in OD single disc clutch assembly set up. The flywheels however were different for each engine."

He then goes on about the RPO MA6 dual disc clutch/flywheel setup in detail.

BTW, if you found 3789733 on the flywheel, it is a casting number not the part number.

Here is the listing of flywheels from my P&A 30B of revision 9/'73:

66-69 Corvette (396, 427) (exc. AT)
69 Corvette (350) (exc sp H/Per., AT)
70 Corvette (exc AT, HD 4-spd. Sp H/per)
71-73 Corvette (350) (exc AT)
All these used part #3998281

65 Corvette w/ sp. H/per (396)
67-69 Corvette w/HD AL. cyl and case (427)
70 Corvette (HD 4 sp w/Sp H/per) (350)
71-72 Corvette w/HD 4 sp (350)
All these used part #3991406

This is the listing for clutch discs, driven:

66-68 Corvette (427) (exc HD)
69-70 Corvette (427,454) (exc HD, HD clutch)
69-70 Corvette w/ sp. H/per (350) (exc sp. H/per 4-spd)
70 Corvette w/ Sp H/per (350) (exc HD 4-spd)
All these used 11" woven disc part #3908960 and are 10 spline.

11 clutch is correct for your Vette. Only the L-88, ZR-1/2 had 10.5" HD clutches in early C3 production. The 71 LS-6 had a beauty a dual disc 10" clutch (option MA-6 in the 69 model year.)

Guy's, thanks for your time - this is just the info I needed!
The flywheel has given up it's old ring gear and it's new one is on order.
