Default 68 conv. WS door corner

Hi,

I'm putting in a convertible cage in my hardtop only car. Im currently just testfits the weatherstrips before sanblasting and painting the frame. One thing I cant understand is how the small piece of rubber at the lower corner is supposed to fit when closing the door. See pic below:

I dont have any reference and the old ws was so badly rotted away so not much to look at. It seems like the door will jam badly right into the rubber block!? Cant be right or?

A picture would be really good from a known correct installtion.

Thanks.

Martin

That looks like a seriously large block, but thats the way it goes. You need the convertible frame adjusted to clear the side windows and down the back.

It feels like the tang on the door sqashes the rubber block badly. I'm almost afraid the tang on the door could be damaged. Too bad I dont have an old one to compare with - do you have any closeup view you could post here?

Thanks.

Anyone that have a picture with fresh weatherstrips on a 68 conv.? It would be worth a lot to me. Still cant figure this out. I must have some part wrong or something...cant find any good closeup in the AIM either on this section. Page F3 does not contain this rubber block.

I might be confused here since the car was a hardtoponly and the conv. frame is from an unknown year. Perhaps this rubber block was not used on the 68, but my frame is from a newer car, that's why I had the rotten fragment of this WS piece? My experience is that a lot of the parts guys have very little knowledge of 68 specifics. The WS kit from CA is claimed to be 68-75. The convertible frame is bot at all 68 specific I hope...otherwise I have problems....

Anyone with a 68 convertible?

Thanks.

Do you have the top material on the frame or are you working with a bare frame? I have a 68 and those pieces are there. You'll end up moving the
adjustment points on each side as well as rear bow to deck-lid and front bow to windshield header once the top material is on the frame. Raising the side adjustment points upward a bit will raise the pieces that contact the door.

Getting the top adjusted correctly to fit the body as well as proper glass to weatherstrip fit will take time and patience. The last pieces of the interior to go on were the door panels, because there was time spent adjusting the door windows to fit the top and windshield pillar as well as getting the doors to fit those particular weatherstrips you're asking about.

The frame has no vinyl yet. I wanted to test fit all weatherstrips before sandblasting, painting and installing the top.

Can you take a picture or perhaps measure the distance marked with yellow below:

I'm worried that the frame is incorrect for my car (it was a hardtop only car from beginning, frame is from unknown year, shipped with the car at purchase). Or perhaps the rubber filler block is wrong.

Thanks.

Post pics of your folding top irons. We could -- at the least -- determine whether you have C3 irons.

I will do that. I'm 99.99% convinced the frame is correct. It fits perfectly. My hope is that the rubber filler block is just a poor too thick repro. Do you have any possibility to measure the gap I marked above? It would be invaluable to have this measurement or a picture.

Thanks.

The frame fits perfectly on the car so this is probably not an issue. However, a picture of the lower corner of the frame/door would still be very valuable for me so I can figure out what's going on.

Thanks.

I have checked with a couple of 68 cars now. The filler blocks I have are incorrectly marked LH and RH.

Case closed. Thanks for all comments.
