Got Quoted a price for r-12 @ 60/Lb. Is this right or am I being taken? Its been a couple years since I bought some and it was 30- 40 dollar range then.Anyone get there system charged latly?
Yup. 60 bucks a pound at my local A/C fixit shop. But they installed it under warranty. So when it all went pssssssst the other day, they fixed the problem and replaced it free!
For once, it paid to have a pro do the work :smash:
RF-12 is this something that you can buy at parts stores?
Think that may have been a misstype, have not heard of RF-12, but there is an FR-12. It is a blend, made up of 39% HCFC-124, 59% HCF-134a, and 2% butane. It also goes under the name of FRIGC.
I usec Freez 12 in my Blazer and it works Great. Heck it's even colder :D Of course I'm sure there are some bad side effects but I haven't had any yet.

No side effects that I have heard of. It is just a blend, made up of 80% 134a. So may as well go with 134a since it and service for it is available everywhere.
a friend bought 4000 cans at 99 cents each and sold them all at 15.00 each you do the math!!! R-414B can be used without changing any thing and you only need 90% of the R-12 capacity. :D :chevy
I do a lot of this commercially (licensed and everything!), and I only use R-12 when the customer insists. I get it for around $20.00/lb., but I don't use it much. I stay away from the blends because they tend to use butane/propane in some proportion. It's a liability issue for me (think car crash and fire, lawyers, court, etc...), so I exclusively convert to R-134A. It is also flammable, but only when compressed, while the others continue to be so after they vent. On the older cars I change compressors and dryer/accumulators, but I find that the hoses, even if they're not "barrier" hose (with a nylon liner), are so saturated with oil that they work fine. You can buy kits that include all the right O-rings, seals and oil at most parts stores to convert.
