Headers - How Tight is Too Tight?
Now that I have the BB chassis back exposed, I was quickly reminded that the Hooker Super Comps fit WONDERFULLY - except by the Idler Arm. There was interference so I dimpled the header to make it fit. Now I'm looking at it again and wondering if this is the best idea. The dimple actually wraps around the idler arm joint and the clearance is really only about 1/8". These headers are HPC coated inside and out, so they're not gonna be as hot as normal headers, but this still seems pretty darn close to a greasable suspension joint with a rubber boot....
Here's how it looks (it takes a few minutes to make sense):
When I built this chassis 3 years ago I didn't have the original exhaust manifolds and didn't want to pay the extortion prices for them when Hooker/HPC headers were better and cheaper. Since then I acquired a set for a reasonable sum and have them as an option to the headers.
Suggestions?
