I'm going to have a B&M shift kit installed in my 82. I recently had a new 700r4 installed and it feels like a slush box. Any suggestions on what setting would be best? I was thinking heavy duty, I don't want to beat the **** out of the trans I just want a nice firm positive shift.
Thanks!!

I could be wrong, but it's my understanding that the quicker the trans shifts, the better for it. A quick may be tougher on the rest of the drivetrain, but heat in the trans should be reduced and that's its worst enemy.
FWIW, I've had a B&M kit in my 350 for a while now (on the HD/Towing setting). The trans had high mileage on it when I installed the kit, but (wood :smash: ) it's still running good. If I do it again, I'm going with the street/strip setting though.
Just put one in my 81 a couple of months ago and used the Street/Strip setting and just love it. It is not that hard of a shift as long as you stay off the gas pedal but if you stomp on it you do get the scatch of rubber when she shifts into second and the shift into third is so fast and smooth the only way you can tell it shifted is to look at the tach.
I have a 350 Tranny in the 81
My VOTE is for the Street/Strip setting.

Go with the more agressive setting. You wont be disapointed. Its not to harsh. The quicker the shift, the less slippage between clutch packs as they engage. It is actually better for the trans clutches.
As I understand it the 700r4 is different from the 350 because there are many design problems with it. The TransGo kit corrects these.
Before you install B&M you should browse the thirdgen archives.
Lots of post there from people who have installed B&M and want to move to TransGo. They have to buy a new spacer plate since the B&M drill to wide holes.
I just got mine in yesterday and used the street/strip setting. It's great! Shifts real quick but not too hard. Not like a TH350 with a shift kit, but it's definitly nice.
