Default matching # motor rebuild

my 327/300 motor needs a refresh does any one know the best pistons/ cam and what ever else I should change to get a few more ponys. I would like to keep the heads to keep it as stock as possible.

You can upgrade it to an L-79 or L-46 internally with factory type dome pistons and factory cam. The smaller valves on your motor won't make much difference.

Put a 383 stroker crank into it, a mild cam and Pertronix Ignitor ignition system. Pistons can be forged or hyperutectic if you carefully keep compression around 9.25:1 max. Comp Cams XE256 cam and if you have some money to burn, port and polish the heads with bigger valves 1.60 exhaust first then the 2.02 intake valve with proper chamber unshrouding. Should have a nice 350-380HP "stock 350" when done. 383 cranks are CHEAP! go with that and you won't be sorry.

A 327 can probably be bored and stroked to 383, but it's a lot of work and very expensive.

The 327 and 350 both have the same bore of 4". The 327 stroke is 3.25", 350 stroke is 3.48, and the 400 stroke is 3.75.

A "standard" rebuild bore job of 30 thousands over, i.e., 4.030 bore, yields, 331.6 ci with a 327 with a standard stroke, 355 ci in a 350 with a standard stroke.

By putting a 400 ci crank in either a 327 or 350 with a 30 thousands bore gives you - Ta Da - 382.7 ci which we can call 383. It should be no more trouble to put the 400 crank in a 327 block than in a 350 block. Make sure the rods do not contact the cam or the block and you're good to go.
