Default Parking brake shoes

I've been doing an update on my rear suspension and now it is time for re-assembly. Been a couple of months since i dis assembled and I just want to validate my e-brake shoes are in correctly before moving on. I don't have the cable attached yet...waiting on parts, but just wondering if how I have this is correct. I did a search, but couldn't find a good picture without the spindle installed.

Thanks

Not sure that the spring is supposed to be contacting the star-adjuster.....???

Sure looks pretty though !

The only difference i see between yours and mine is that the lower spring is hooked from the backside instead of the front. I checked the old hardware and see no difference between them and the new stuff. I'll try hooking from the back and see if it gets a little less contact with the star adjuster. I see no way around making contact with this design. Thanks for the replies

Is it possible that the upper spring, with the clearance, goes on the bottom ?

That would make more sense wouldn't it!
This was how my parts car was but there is no saying that a previous brake job might be why.
I'll see if I can find a picture in one of my books.
Be back soon.

My service manual shows that the springs are in the right locations.

The spring being in solid contact with the star adjuster is mandatory- that's what keeps it from turing on it's own.

When going back to my old pictures before the removal, I noticed I had the passenger side parts on the driver side what a dumbazz. The caliper support bracket was the only parts I forgot to mark which side. I have since corrected and reinstalled.

Thanks for the input as to the lower spring.

No need to hook that bottom spring from behind, Mike? I can't see how it would matter, just curious if it might.

You still got the, what was it '64 you drove to the Labor Day gathering in '02?

Makes no difference on the lower spring, but hooked from the outside is correct.
Mike Ward is correct. The spring must contact the star adjuster
69' Your star adjuster in the pic is in backwards. The wheel should be at the front. Doesn't affect anything being backwards, it's just not correct.

Yep, still got the '64. It's going thru a transformation right now. Could barely hit 150 in it so going with a 468. And a modern paint job. Just couldn't take those butterflies any longer.

Thanks for clearing up the spring. The reason I installed the star wheel as I did was from an article in Corvette Magazine.com http://www.corvettemagazine.com/brak...e-rebuild.html

19: Now install the shoe adjuster. Spread the shoes at the bottom and carefully install the adjuster. NOTE: Always place the star wheel of the adjuster toward your RIGHT HAND on both rear wheels.

So that would be towards the rear on the driver side and towards the front on the passenger side

Now that i have the parking brake shoes installed correctly, what is the process of pulling the spindle into the outer bearing?
