Default Temperature sensing - 2 wire or 1 wire ?

Installing a new temperature sensor on my 350 block (new crate ). Instaed of transferring over the old sensor I want to replace with a new sensor. The new ones have a 2 wire hookup, the old has 1 wire. Guess you know the next question?
Is one wire hot and the other a ground ??
Thanks.

What year engine ? Did the new sensor come with the engine ? Usualy a two wire sensor is a "coolant temp sensor" (CTS) that provides input to the computer on a computer controlled car. This could be either a carb or FI computer controlled sensor. It is VERY common for parts people to supply you with the wrong sensor. Whether you are using factory or aftermarket gauges, you need to use the correct sensor FOR YOUR GUAGE.

Thank you. I was worried about engine size (350).... now that I'm installing a new crate (350/355) I guess I need to get an exact replacement for the original motor that would line up to the original guage.
The local parts house(s) wanna sell me the 2 pin model, can't seem to find an original model. Will keep looking......Thanks

From your member page, I'm guessing this engine is for your 1980. Head back to your parts store, find an experianced employee or manager and tell them you need the sender for the TEMP gauge. Worst comes to worst, you could order it from one of our supporting venders as most have internet catalogs that will even show a picture of the sender you will receive.

Correct, it's for the 80 model. Pulled the old one and will take it with me, along with a picture of my temperature guage. That oughta do it. Thanks for the help.
