Default Need vapor lock help please.

I know enough about vapor lock to know I get it. Bubba owned my car before me and I am not saying Bubba still doesn't work on it from time to time. Therefore, I am not sure which issues are causing my problem and how to correct it. I am including some pics and a list of know modifications that could be causing my problem. Car is a 74.

I am not opposed to ideas like a carburetor heat shield if it is needed.

Bubbafication list:

Vapor canister was missing from car when I bought it.
vapor port on driver side of gas tank has been plugged.
new vented gas cap
mechanical fan and shroud removed.
Electric fan installed on radiator. (temp stays around 180 per thermostat)
The vapor line on the carb is plugged and probably is part of my problem.

What are my options for venting this carb other than to the canister?

Below shows a metal fuel line with a slight angle upward and a missing fan.

I am not sure if I have a excess heat issue or venting or both but I know I probably have some of each.

Thank you for your ideas.

Yes Sir; Didn't GM start installing a return line,on the later models, to stop the vapor lock. I had that problem & installed an electric fuel pump, no more problems., Back in the 50's my Uncles used wooden clothes pins on the gas line to stop that problem. Gene

Bubba was wanting to know if it would help, hurt or other if I connected the carb vent (pointing to in pic?) directly to the metal tank vent line (bypassing the charcoal canister because I dont have one) and then reconnected the line to the gas tank.

Could it be something simple like that? Do you need the canister to vent to the carb?

Thanks

So it is possible that my fuel pump is bleeding back the fuel? If so, why only when it is hot? I do have a return line on the pump.

I noticed your Edelbrock manifold and headers, I had problems with my 73 boiling the fuel out of the carb with a similar set-up. I put heat insulator gasket between carb and manifold and problems went away. Before the insulator gasket it was hard to start after warmed up and would stumble first time you hit it after a hot start. Edelbrock sells an insulator gasket for their manifolds and carbs.

That is my exact symptom. Do I need something other than the 1/4 inch purple colored composite type gasket that is there now?

I saw that summit sells Edelbrock nitrile rubber gaskets but only for square bore.

Not meaning to quibble, but IF this description accurately describes YOUR problem, it is properly called percolation. Heat vapourizes fuel in the bowl causing excess fuel being drawn in through the carb so it is an excessively rich mixture on hot start. The insulator gasket usually solves this. The vapour is supposed to go to the charcoal canister so it doesn't go into the air and the benefit is you get to burn that fuel when cruising. Solution? Set up the canister properly.

Vapour lock is when the fuel is boiling in the line before the pump - the pump can't pump vapour.
