Default brake bleeding success

After bleeding the brakes a dozen times I finally have hard pedal that dosent travel to the floor.I replaced the only thing left, the calibers with oringed rebuilt ones.I bleed it last weekend for 6 hours and still had a soft pedal.I got at it today and finally got the air out.what a pain in the ***.new mastercylinder, booster, calibers.I can finally move on to something else.

Congratulations. I was reading some of your earlier threads and am trying to do the same thing. I can emphasize with your success and how you must feel after getting a hard brake pedal. I know the past 4 weeks have been an uphill battle with mine.

6 hours of brake bleeding is pretty frustrating wasnt it.

I gave up back in the fall.I went and took a brake from it and installed the vintage air kit.I think it was easier than fooling with the brakes.man don't give up.If there is anyway I can help just let me know.I know more about brakes than I want to.dont feel bad.Im an aircraft mechanic by trade and they still drove me nuts.

Good to hear it finally works well. Some times these "beauties" fight us to the bitter end.

You ain't kidding.I could have pulled the engine and installed a crate motor in less time than I spent fooling with this. Its all worth it when you turn the key and take for a spin.

WOW

I too have been having sever trouble with the brakes on the 75.
I just can't seem to get the air out.
The front brakes seem to be okay but the back suckers have been Hell.

I switched to gravity bleeding them.
I'll fill up the master Cylinder, open up the bleeders and let it drip for an hour or so and then close it back up and come back later and do it again.

I'm still getting air when I open the bleeders, they blow bubbles.

I have about 5 hours into this passive method.

I wish I could just throw money at it and it would go away.

Throw some money at a motive bleeder and some O ring calipers.

I helped a friend with his '82 brakes.. Tried the new fancy vacuum bleeder, then after several hours tried the old school way.. After more time and still bubbles showing up we threw in the towel. I followed him in my truck and he drove to a brakes only shop. He was using the e-brake the whole way. Got a shop guy to look. Found a hairline crack in the master cylinder !! New MC , bleed and it's been great. They charge $37 to bleed brakes...

Seems like it would gave been leaking.the guy I bought my car from put on a new set of lip seal calibers back in 05.since then the car only had 2000 miles on it.I tried everything.until I put on a set of oringed calibers I just couldn't get the air out.after that it took about 10 hours of bleeding with the power bleeder.I also whacked on the rear calibers with a dead blow hammer to get the last bit of air out of it.

I have to assume you're talking about a vacuume bleeder. Try a Motive pressure bleeder and you'll never look back. You can completely change the fluid from master to all wheels in about 20 minutes with one.

I tried the vacuum bleeder it sucked.I meant the power bleeder.I couldn't get anywhere the vacuum method.took for a spin today.first time since I tore it down last fall to install the vintageair. It stops better than my Toyota pickup and equal to my Honda accord.luckily I didn't get pulled over.my antique plates are supposed to come in the mail next week.just couldn't wait after finally getting the brakes sorted out.

Glad to hear it worked out for you as I'm looking for tips on this process as well. I replaced all 4 calipers and MC last fall. I went at it for 1.5 days trying to bleed it. At first I tried the vacuum method, well that just...sucked.

I then had my wife in the car pump the brakes while I sat at each caliper, opening and closing the bleeder. Still no luck, at least with the car.

I've got other things to do but will eventually have to address this issue before I drive it.
