Re: 1977 Vette Members Website is ready...> (moskovita)
Hey, did you guys know that there was a recall on the '77 Vette? Early production '77's had a horn button trim ring that was silver just like the spokes of the steering wheel. It was determined that the retaining ring exceeded the allowed maximum reflectivity rating and posed a danger because the driver might be blinded by reflected light. This is, of course, ridiculous, because it is not mirror finish chrome and the recall did not include the steering wheel spokes, which are of the same finish. Anyway, the recall allowed owners to return their car and receive a new retainer trim ring that was interior color keyed. All '77's following were built with the color keyed trim ring. My Shark has the silver ring and someone told me this story after I purchased it. I was not sure if it was true (since the light reflection story sounded stupid), but after my car was totaled last month, the insurance report listed this very recall. I am not sure how many '77's were built with the silver horn button retainer, but my car is #12,328 off the line.
Another interesting side note is that early '77's did not have side fender emblems as the later production models did because of availability problems with the supplier. I purchased a pair for my car, but learned that they mount with posts and my car did not have the holes in the fender since it was not originally equipped with the emblems. Not having a mounting template, I cut the posts off the emblems and mounted them on the B-pillar, behind the side windows. This has turned out to be my favorite mod and I have received many compliments on it. I got the idea from the Daytona C5 FRC pace car, which had the C5 crossed flags on the B-pillar. (No replicas of this model were sold to the public.)

Tom,
That is very interesting...I didn't know that. My Vette was 206th one made that year, so I have the emblems. Did you see that I had your Vette posted on: http://1-4u-computer-graphics.com/jacks-corvette.htm
In the "1977 Corvette Members" page?

Yes I did see that. I love that picture of my car in front of the Coke mural in downtown Rogers, AR. It is my wallpaper on my PC at work. Thanks!

Did your corvette have the alarm on the drivers side fender? Mine does and I hate it.
I forgot about that! Early '77's also had the alarm keylock on the driver's side fender. Later it was moved to the driver's doorlock. Guess that will be eliminated when I install a tilt front end. (Original clip was destroyed by moron in pickup.) :mad
