Yeah, but would you run something that slippery in a 23-year-old L82 with 56K miles? Thought Mobil1 was for newer engines...

Running it in two 29 years old Vettes (2-1973 Vettes, LS4 with 50k miles and an L82 with unkn miles) in a 12 year old vette (90 Vette L98 with 120k miles) and in a 2 year old truck with 38k miles. :D

Depends on the motor. Either 10/40 or 20/50 in summer and 10/40 in winter.

I run 20/50 in mine year round. I wouldn't run 5/30 in the south's heat, atleast run 10/30, and molbile1 is by no means a new engine oil. :nono:

I see that this post is for those in the southwest, but I just want to point out that in my New Owners Manual it warns against running any weight below a 40 weight at highway speeds for an extended amount of time. Thus, if you use 10-30 then you might be seeing some engine damage to your bearings due to the oil being too thin and squirting out of the bearing race. This doesn't apply if your motor has been re-engineered with tighter bearing to journal clearances and new teflon coated bearings installed.

those 30 year old owners manuals are out of date for todays oils. unless some bubba put in large bearing clearances 5W-30 should be used because the thicker oil blow open the oil filter bypass when you start a cold engine and allowing dirty oil into the engine. the quicker you get the oil moving the less wear your engine see. it is your choice dino or syn oil but i use mobil 1 in my 88 truck with100,000 miles and it still uses no oil between 4000 mile oil changes. :chevy

I run 10w30 Mobil One in my 82 with 75K on the motor. Not a drop used between oil changes, year round. But been running that since day one when a new motor installed three and one-half years ago.
