82 EGR valvle replacement
Has any one replaced their egr valve in their 82 vette. One mechanic said it was going to cost 1k to replace it and scrape off some carbon. Said the reason it was so expensive was because it was hard to get to and had to take off the manifold ect. ect. Another mechanic said it was easy to get to with only a few bolts to take off thats it. Can anyone shed light on this. Any help would be appreciated for a new vette owner. Thanks in advance

Not enough information to give you an honest assessment. If your ports are plugged, your manifold may have to be removed to be cleaned, the egr, labor and rechecking a 30 year old car can be time consuming, it may not be a bad deal, get more info as to what is going to be involved in the repair and have them expain exactly what they propose to do and why.

Sorry as my post above did not accurately describe what my question was. Is it easy or difficult to remove the EGR valve as I would like to do the work myself. Or do I have to remove half the engine to get to it.

It's on top of the intake, held down by 2 bolts, very easy. Look it up online at www.napaonline.com. They had 3 versions, calif, federal, and collectors ed.
