Default Cowl vents?

I am getting ready to start putting my body back on and I am wondering if I should seal my vents up in the kick panels or keep them operational? They are the manual cable style. I have heard mixed opinions on this. Some guys say they let in too much heat, but if you could make them seal some how when they are closed it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe some of you who have these can help me out.

Ask ANY C3 owner with A/C... (no vents) With the A/C off or inoperable there is no air flow through the car . In warmer climates you have to run the A/C or you will get very hot ..FAST. I wish the vent system was on A/C cars. Keep the vents working. :yesnod:

Yes I agree you need some kind of air flow. My car will have an after market A/C unit and I also have the vents, but I don't want to have the vents leaking hot air into the car when the A/C is on. Will this be possible to keep hot air out when shut?

I haven't noticed mine to leak hot air in. Then again, with no A/C they're essential for cool air.

The air should be coming directly from the cowl vent area and shouldn't be hot really. Unless you're thinking the ambient air temp as being hot.

Either way, I think I'd leave them functional for those days when you don't want to use the A/C.

Good point ddecart. Your right there should be no hot air to enter the car from the engine compartment. Should be just fresh air from the outside. I think I will leave it operational. Thanks for your input.

When I tore my vette down to do a bubba retore :) I sprayed some white grease all over the vent mechanisms and now they function like new. One was seized up before from a little rust. Really feels good to get that air flow to your feet on a hot day with no air. Keep em working!

A faulty or missing hood surround seal or firewall grommets/seals (wiper motor, wiper limit switch, wiper valve vacuum hoses, wiper mechanism mounts, etc. etc.) will allow HOT air to enter the wiper bay/cowl area. If these are functioning, hot air entering through the vents should be minimized.

IMHO leave the vents, evaluate the seals and R&R as necessary.

The good thing about it is that I have the cowl totaly stripped and starting from scratch. The vents open and close good but don't have any seals around them. Do they supposed to have any kind of seal around them? If so do they sell something that I could use without buying the whole door?
