Default chambered Sidepipes inserts?

I've been running open hooker headers and 4" sidepipes for past year and I think its time to add some type of insert. I dont care about how loud the car is but I'm looking for a cleaner sound and a deeper tone. BUT I dont want to give up too much power, Im at ~460hp at motor.

I'm interested in classic chambered "powersticks" I called the company and they make a true 3" ID core straight thru design with small louvers for max flow. I was told that I wouldnt lose too much top end power if any... and in fact I might gain better quicker throttle response and more low end torque. they would cost $330 shipped!!!

My second option would be the STS baffles and run them uncapped. I've heard good things about the perf of these baffles. But Ive also heard from a few people they have a weird sound and sometimes are a little "tiny sounding"

On my last corvette I ran 2.75" sweet thunder chambered inserts and they sounded pretty good but looked really restrictive with big louvers in them. I sold them and ran open pipes on my second vette.

Has anyone used the powerstick 3" on here??? looking for any feedback.

Once again not to beat up on the spiral thingys, but if your looking for a deeper tone I've found that the perforated tube type mufflers have the deepest. I've tried louvered designs and they are loud but harsh to my ears.
My first replacements for the pathetic original Hooker mufflers(which by the way have about a 1 3/4 tube) was the sts baffles and they sounded very raspy with an exhuast leak type sound. Again to my ears...
I now have the Hooker Max Flow 2 1/2 inch perforated tube type inserts and they sound the best by far to me.
I have a 6-71 blown smallblock and if they are robbing me of any power I sure cant tell it

I run the STS baffles. They are a little raspy but I like the sound overall. This really is a "personal preference" decision. They are a good compromise versus a wide open tube.

These are the original Sanderson sidepipe inserts bought in the early 70's. I found they are 'tunable' by wrapping loose fiberglas insulation batting around the perforation section. The more insulation, the deeper the tone. If you're at all handy, you could probably make your own.

Also, in the 'for what it's worth' department, if you only stick your head out the driver's side window when you rev the engine to judge the sound, you're mostly only getting it from 4 cylinders. Best to let someone else work the load pedal and you walk round the car to do the listening.

I have them under the car without sidepipes and love them! What length were you quoted? I may know where you can get them a lot cheaper.
