Im looking at hedman headers for my 1971 small block and the site I am looking through gives my some options that I don't really know.. I would just go out to my car and find out myself but I am in Iraq right now and I'm just ordering parts for when I get back.. Well my options are..
Primary Tube Diameter
1 3/4"
1 5/8"
2"
Collector Attachment
3 Bolt Flange
Ball and Socket Flange
Cylinder Head Port Shape
D-port
Oval
Round
If anyone could tell me what I would need or what would be the easiest for me that would be greatly appreciated!
I am unable to help you with your question, but I did want to say THANK YOU for what you are doing for our country!! praying for yall daily!! and best of luck on your car!
I should have mentions that the engine in the car is not the original engine but a replacement 350 which is suppose to be stock spec 270 hp.. It was installed before I bought the car so I am not sure if it truly is..
I used Hedman Elite for my 80 with 383 stroker. I think you would want 1 5/8" tube for a street engine, and as far as the port shape, I believe you need the round. For the collector, I like the ball and socket type for 2 reasons, no gasket to blow out and easier to align with the exhaust pipes when hooking up. In the Summit Racing catalog, the Elite part # is HED-68308. Another thing, I chose the Elite because of the heavier gauge tubes (14 gauge), and the 3/8" flanges. Hope this helps. Good luck.
1st a big THANK YOU to you and your fellow armed forces members.
God Bless you and the USA.
I would suggest before you order headers read this thread. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...s-68301-a.html
Because there always seems to be fitment issues with just about any brand of headers you choose wait till you get home before you order them. If they have been sitting for awhile returning them could be a problem.

HED-68308 - I did not take the advice of waiting to buy these until I get back. They came in my wife took the car to my Italian mechanic to get the parts installs with the other bunch of things that I bought.. He ran into problems with the headers wont fit with the alternator and compressor.
Any ideas on this?
I was thinking just change the belt length for the alternator and compressor and move them out a bit?

Did you at least read this link? http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...s-68301-a.html If you did and you still bought Hedman headers then maybe you should read it again.
What ever you do do not modify these headers in any way shape or form untill you are sure they are going to work. Once you do anything to them you own then if they fit or not. Please make that clear to your mechanic. I would hate to see you spend your money on parts that you're not going to be happy with. There are so many header threads on this forum it would take you days to go through them. There are alternatives as well as solutions. Speak to your mechanic and talk this through before you go foward. In the end you will be glad you did.
