I've got an 'interesting' handling problem that I need some help with.
When turning to the right, the car feels like it 'dives' into the turn at first and then doesn't want to turn without more input. When turning to the left, it is nice and even. It is most noticeable at highway speeds on sweeping curves.
It has persisted after replacing tires and overhauling the brakes. Alignment seems good.
You need to get a full diagnostic evaluation from a reputable source. There are so many things that can need attention that it's not something easily done on a forum. In addition to the usual bushings, alignment and ball joints, there are some less obvious things to check like broken front crossmember welds, idler arm and power steering control valve.
I had some play in my steering on my '75. It felt loose when I turned to the left and even looser when turning to the right. I tightened the adjustment in the steering box (as per the forum's directions)...that helped a little but it still had some play in the wheel. I finally went to a front end specialist in my area and he found the idler arm bushing was shot. So I had him replace it and TA-DA, it now works perfectly!!!! I really recommend that you take it to a front end specialist.
