Depends on your skill level and what kind of tools you have. I have done quite a few of these myself. It takes about 10 or so hours to do but I have a lift and plenty of tools and after doing a bunch know what to expect. If you have the time it is a great project.
I wrote an article about this job and have lots of pics as well as a comprehensive parts list. Let me know and I'll send them to you. Best thing I ever did for my '70...
I would greatly appreciate that if you don't mind sending me that article with pictures and parts list to efird72@hotmail.com!
Thanks, matthew

I'm planning on doing this in my '79 sometime soon. I drove it for many years with the original TH350. The shift kit made it better, but I finally installed a 700R4. That was a huge improvement especially in terms of gas mileage (16 to 25 thats imperial, that would be about 13 to 20 miles per us gallon). NOw I've decided what I really want is a third pedal. If you could email me the info you have about the swap to drwet I'd appreciate it. I've looked into the kits offered by the aftermarket, but they're a little pricey. Especially considering I have a transmission (Muncie) and a couple of bellhousings and assorted other parts.

Sorry about hijacking the link, but if you could send me the list, I would appreciate it also. Tlcoats1@gmail.com. The 5k they (Keisler & Tremec) want, is a little steep and any savings would be appreciated.
Again, to anybody who would like a copy of the narrative I wrote regarding this swap, just PM me with your email address (or post it here if you're brave) and I'll get it to you (scrappy76's is on its way).

I'm looking at doing the swap myself on my '72. If you can send it to me that would be a great help. gulflyer@yahoo.com Thanks.

Am about to start on an 80 auto to 4 speed swap in the next few weeks. Any info you have would be appreciated. PM sent.
Seems like a popular item nowadays.
I will take pics and maybe a video or 2. It will take me much longer than 10 hours I'm sure.

Was it hard to swap in that 700R4 for the TH350? I am almost ready to go with a new Crate engine and what better time to do a 700R4 in my auto '81?
