Put a new exhaust system on my 78 L82 and removed this portion. I went on line and couldn't find any c3 test pipes, and then looked for the length of a CC (PO removed) but came up empty. If it is, are guys still looking for these or is it just trash?
That's a muffler shop test pipe...GM used a slip fit converter and 3 bolt end flanges were never used by the commercial test pipe companies. Easy to make with tubing and a pipe bender.....
Let me know how much you'd like for it and shipping.
When I returned my black79 to stock last year I put the original cat back on. Like to replace it with the test pipe. Save the cat for judging or when I (n)ever sell it.
Got a test pipe in place of the cat on my white79 and it sounds a whole lot better. Almost as good as the black one did when I had the headers and duals on it.
Original cat's very restrictive. I've run the Vettes with the rear Y pipe and mufflers removed, cat in place, and it was as quiet as could be.
Plus, they get so hot!
note....my existing test pipe has 2 bolt flanges. Kinda leaky. Had to put washers and bolts in the other 2 holes against the flange to help seal it up.

I think my '75 has flanges on the converter. I'll look tomorrow.
I have one of those....except mine is not rusty at all....it has never seen a wet road. Also the converter I replaced the original one with has four bolt flanges on both ends...same as the test pipe. Had to make a new AIR line to the converter though as the inlet was on the other side from original. Both are sitting in a box as I put Hooker Sidepipes/Headers on.
Yep. From the looks of it, it was purchased at a time when they were legal.
That was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
A quick Ebay search will yield 6+ sellers of test pipes for Corvettes - they get around legality the same way the Vette parts houses do "For off-road race use only"
