Default Side Yoke Bearings

Just received a differential rebuild kit from Tom's and the new side yoke bearings appear to have half the amount of needle bearings. Is this going to be a problem, or should I get some original style bearings? Why would they do this anyway?

That has been a topic of conversation (argument?) on differential rebuild threads in the past. You can try searching for it...
What I remember reading when I rebuilt mine was that--from an engineering standpoint-- the bearings with 1/2 the rollers are perfectly adequate for the job, and one poster claimed they were superior in this application...IIRC, he posted some data from the manufacturer. In terms of real-world experience, I have almost 2 years on my rebuild using the subject bearings...no issues.

Did you call Tom's and ask them? What did they say?

Tnx. I'll search for IIRC's info about it. It has my curiosity peaked as one of those 'just got to know' things.
