ok so my gen light comes on well it kind of flickers but its basically on in my 77 vet. sorry im not a good typer. the car runs fine all the electric stuff works. i bought a tester at an ace store and tested the generator with the motor off and got 12,7 volts. i checked the cell and got 12,9. then i started the motor and checked the generator and got 14,8 volts and checked cell again with motor running and got almost same. a guy at a gas station used a load tester or something and told me my cell was healthy. ok so why is the gen light flashing? i would guess its trying to tell me something is wrong but nothing seems to be wrong. any ideas? thanks fellas.
Check the connector on the alternator may be corroded or a loose connection
no the connection is great. the plug is solid and not moving when i drive. the guy before me said its is cs brand alternator. he returned my call. is that a big factor? he said the gen light means both works so something else is wrong.
Two things maybe: Like what was said before the plug on the back. Mine was tight also, but the metal connections inside the plug housing were pushed up over time. This made it feel like the plug was tight, BUT the connections were just barley touching. When I was at idle, the light would come on. I finally pushed them all the way into the plug and that fixed the issue. Second: If you have an underdrive pully, that may lead to your light to come on when car is not under so much load like at a light. Good luck.
