After reassembling all the lights after the paint job some of the lights did not work. I have them all working now except the right front side marker light. Strange thing is I tested the socket and I am getting good 12 volts there. Tried 3 different bulbs and even took the bulbs from the ones that are working. Still no light. The socket looks good. No busted prongs and the light slips in good. I even tweaked the little metal wires on the bulbs a little. The only thing I can figure is a bad socket but it looks better than some of the others I have.
What year is your car, some of the years didn't use power and ground at the marker lights.
They used power from the parking light circuit and the ground was provided from the turn signal "power" wire.
OK looks like early 72s had the 71 side markers.
Gordon , if you have 12v and a ground you must have a socket thats not making connection.
Try putting the test light across the 2 term in the socket.
Hey Gordonm. I am certanly no ...Roger... but an easy way to look at it is that you can have voltage without having current/amperage to light the bulb. If a stranded wire has all but one of its strands broken it will show voltage on a meter but will not carry any current. mike...
Must have a bad ground wire. The test light will light when I hook it to a sepearte ground and hit the positive terminal in the socket. I'll have to mess with the ground wire and find where it is broken. Thanks for the advice. I should get a chance to work on it tomorrow afternoon. I'll let you know what happens.
Working on everyone elses car but mine. I finally got around to this and took all the sockets out and cleaned them up. I don't know if it got some paint dust or other crap in the passenger side parking light socket but it looked bad in there. I cleaned it all up and the lights are now operating correctly. Just not getting good contact. Check the basics first.
