I changed the ignition lock which met pulling the steering wheel and removing the lock plate, signalling cam etc. Now re-installing I'm stuck. I need a good illustration or good explanation to show the order from the spring below the lock plate up to star screw. I know I'm missing something in re-install but not sure what. The good part is I tested the ignition lock and that now works. Thanks. This is a great forum
Just what I'm looking for. Thanks for the great diagrams. I can now put everything back together. I especially like the "cutting off the head of the 5/8" bolt". The upper column shaft moving in and out was driving me crazy cause I couldn't compress the spring to attach the retainer.

From Mark. Now I think I have to replace the column shaft because the 5/16 (I mistakenly said 5/8 in my other reply) bolt won't screw in. I also tried to screw in the star screw as well and it wouldn't screw in either. Although it doesn't appear damaged, I might have damaged it when I used the lock plate compressor to remove the lock plate initially. Should I go ahead and replace the column shaft? Thanks for the continued assist
Thanks. As you can tell I hadn't thought about that and the funny thing is I have a set of taps I rarily use. I'll try it tonight when I get back home. Do I have to be concerned that the Star Screw won't fit snug after I tap the threads?
Mark,Thank you for your question it also helped me with my problem of a loose turn lever when selecting a left hand turn in my 79 and now I know how to access it.Thanks to Wilcox with his guides on repairs. The trick with the 5/16ths bolt, that is where I came to a stopping point with my puller I was afraid of damaging my colume.Thank you again to both of you.
