Default Just gettin warmed up..

I just got the 78 saturday, it had been sitting in storage for the past 2 years. Shes in pretty good shape, and i couldnt beat the price..lol.
I traded a few rifles for it.

When i got it, it would not start, so trailered it home. I pulled the starter this morning and took it up to autozone, where it failed testing. Bought a new starter and installed it, put 10 gallons of fuel and a bottle of STP carburator treatment in the tank, and now she runs and drives pretty good.

When i took it around the neighborhood for a test run i noticed that the power steering whines pretty bad, and it looks like Im leaking a little power steering fluid from a seal on the shaft under the car. Do i need to replace the whole shaft assembly, or just the seal?

I popped the hood open when i got back and i also found a couple small holes in the valve cover that has let a little oil leak out.

Another thing im trying to figure out is: Ive got the battery disconnected whenever its sitting at the house because there is what sounds like a small fan running somwhere on the passenger side, that turns on immediatly when i connect the battery, and i dont want to drain the battery. Im not sure what this fan is for or really if it is even a fan at all. I can hear it but i dont see it.

Other than that, all the eletrical stuff works, power windows, power locks, all that stuff. All the guages work except for the temp (ive got an after market water temp guage installed under the dash to check temp) and the clock.

there is a cover that goes over the flywheel housing.

the blower fan is designed to run all the time on low, BUT only with the key switch on.
sounds as if some one has done some rewiring, or there is something wrong with the ignition switch on the lower steering column, but if thats the case the directional signals and backup lights would work with the key off also.

I must have some more funky wiring then, or a busted switch. It wont stay back if i pull it toward me, and it doesnt want to push forward at all.

It should not go forward at all. You should pull it back and release to turn on the high beams and pull and release again to turn them off. You should hear a distinct click. They are not like the new car design.
