Everything after 1977 was GM corporate blue. I think somewhere in the 90's things all went to black.

Trivia! This all stems from a lawsuit against GM in the mid-1970s when a fellow bought a new Oldsmobile and found a Chevy Orange engine under the hood. It was a Chevy engine. GM was rationalizing (reducing) its engine choices amongst Divisions to cut costs. The complainant wanted an Oldsmobile engine!! I do not recall if he won the case but shortly thereafter all GM engines were painted a "corporate" colour to avoid confusion and that was blue :yesnod: .

Danzig, Your engine should be Chevy Orange. Plasticoat Hi Temp. Chevy Orange is very, very close to the factory color.

Very early in the '77 model run the color went to corporate Blue. However there are a few '77's that got the leftover Orange ones from the '76. This little tidbit of knowledge was garnered from my brother who helped install the new paint booth at Chevy V-8 Engine plant in Flint, MI during the '76-'77 model change shutdown in the summer of '76....... :seeya :flag

tnt76 is right on. I have an early 77 serial #1400 from August 76 and got an orange engine. Also mentioned in the Corvette Restoration Guide.
