Is there a good special tool out there to help get new parking brakes on?

Yes there is, You will find a picture of it in most of the major catalogs but it is nothing but a Flat Screwdriver with a Notch cut in it. I have one but never figured out what good it did. I took a Pair of needle Nose Vise grips and ground them down to make them skinier so that they would fit in behind the brake pads.

replacing these is just a miserable experience ......use dental floss to compress the springs and tie it off then route the floss through the retaining clip....then after its in place cut the floss. good luck and apologize to your helper up front for cursing and yelling at them.

Similar to above, tie the springs with cotton, put on pins and rotate a little....lighter or a match and the cotton burns and the retainers pop in to place.

Truely miserable. I just did mine a few weeks ago using ground down needlenose pliers. Now I always consult this forum before attempting anything.
