AAAHHHH! BIG UGLY CRACK....
For those of you who want the short story, goto the second paragraph to skip the instructions on how to put a big nasty ugly gash in your dashboard.
ok so i decided to finally upgrade the stereo in the vette today. while pulling the 4X6's from the dash of my 79, i tried to pull the speaker out of the dash on the passenger side. i couldnt get it, so i ended up getting a screwdriver out and did something incredibly stupid: i pried it out. it wasnt stuck very bad at all, but after applying about 3-4 lbs of pressure to the screwdriver i heard a loud CRACK!! i pulled the screwdriver out quickly to see what i hoped wasnt there, a big ugly 2 inch gash in the black part of the dashboard. stupid, stupid stupid!! after promptly kicking my own butt, i grabbed some pliers to pull the speaker out. came out fine.
well so now i have a crack in the top of the dashboard, and the black shows it horribly well. so now i ask what do these things cost for a good quality replacement? how hard is it to replace? and do i have to buy the front colored dashpiece too? thanks for any info.

Someone makes a "dash cap" for C3s, but I have never seen one installed (check Ecklers, Mid America, etc.). They are generally ~$100, as compared to the price of a new dash being ~$450 (last time I checked, which was a while back).

poster #2. ok thanks. i dont think i will go the cheap route, why cover it up. might as well do the job right the first time thanks on the price now i know what to expect
