I'm looking for some opinions on this if anyone has any experience....
I just went through my first experience of wrapping my headers. Everything went fairly well however when I got done, I noticed that there is one spot where the header is exposed when you look down on the header from the top (area about the size of a quarter).
The "cause" is that at that location, the header tubes are too close together to get another wrap on the one pipe, and when I try to cover it when wrapping two tubes together, it leaves the area open from above. The only way to correct that I can determine is to over wrap the pipe which I've read is not a good idea due to hot spot creation.
Do you think that the space will defeat the purpose or cause any issues or would I be better off with the extra over wrapping? I'm thinking it should be ok but am clueless in this area.

I have Hedman long tubes. The paperwork that cam ewith them said if you wrap the hedders, the warranty is void. Keep that in mind.
Knowing this, i wrapped mine anyway. I used 1 inch X 50 ft roll (on each side) and it was enough to wrap them down to the big 90 degree bend, then re-wrap them back up. That hole you described was covered on the re-wrap. My engine bay is much cooler, and so are the spark plug wires/looms.

That is why some mfgrs will void the warranty.
Painted mine with the VHT rattle can paint. Am aware they will probly rust away anyhow, but at $240 delivered I can afford to change them out every 6-7 years. Or maybe my wife's next husband will have to deal with this issue, who tf knows?
Thanks guys, mine were not new but only had a couple of small rust spots which cleaned right up with a wire wheel. I do everything I can to avoid driving in the rain and it's pretty arid in Colorado so the rust factor is minimized. I did pretreat them with VHT and had to do something to protect the plugs and wires.
Also be aware that if oil gets soaked intot he wrap, it will cause a fire. I have seen about 4 cars catch fire because of this. Luckily all 4 were put out quickly with little or no damage except to the wrap.
Thanks I was aware of that. DEI makes a silicone based spray coating, something like paint, which will help prevent oil from soaking into the fabric. Nothing is 100% but supposedly it helps.
