Default Jack stands under my 73

I have 3 sets of jack stands that I like to put under the car when I'm working on it. The manual I have says to put them under the lower front spring perch or on the frame rail directly behind the front tire.

Directly behind the front tire the frame rail angles upward so this is not a good place. Father back makes me worry because a lot of the engine weight is forward of the stand.

I like to get the car up high when working on it and want to pick the best locations even if they are not where the manual says to put them. What else can I try ? I assume the round frame support behind the front bumper is a bad choice because it's too far forward. The crossmember under the engine on mine is already trashed from being jacked on.

Where can I support a C3 frame without doing damage ? I sometimes have mine in the air for days while I finish a project....

Basically the spots you list is the only spot you can safely support the car. I have never lifted all 4 wheels on mine at one time. If you do the 4 points on the frame, you should be able to put 2 jack stands under the vacum tube in front.

The best place is under the lower a-arms. That way the weight of the car is on the suspension as it would be when the car is on its tires.

The factory recommended jackstand locations are under the frame just in front of the back wheels and just behind the front wheels (where the frame is horizontal). I have had my car supported like this for months at a time. Two other recommended spots are under the frame, at the front - below the radiator.
Regarding the locations in front & behind the wheels that I mentioned - if they didn't work, how could the car be lifted on a chassis lift?

you can use 6 if you want to ......one on the back infront of the rear tire where the frame meets and has lots of material... one more on the flat spot of the frame before it angles up behind the front tire and then the next set any where you want to put it...this set is really just gravy and you can it put any where you have flat frame or under the A arms. i have done this in the past. i will not use the stamped steel jack stands only the square bottom ones

I had my 82 on four stands for a couple of months. I put the front stands as close to the area where it begins to angle up and the rear stands as far back as I can. I could not use the A-arms as support since my task was to remove them to replace the bushings. The car was solid on the four stands.

Support front end under radiator to prevent sagging over time.

Don't forget that even in the "safest" of conditions, working on an elevated vehicle is still risky business.
