74 Corvette Manual shifter question

Can you just change the shifter or do you have to replace the complete assembly? If you can just change the shifter what is the procedure?

the stick comes off the shifter assembly. no real benifit unless there is some cosmetic reason. change to a Hurst shifter for a good shifter

I don't think you can remove the shifter without taking the whole shifter and linkage out. I will tell you its complicated with the reverse light linkage added to the mix to get it all to work right after you take it apart

The reverse lock out is messed up. You really have to hit the shifter hard to get into reverse. I tried replacing the lock out bar and spring but the bar just falls all the way down and there is no tension.
