Default 1972 Carb help Qjet

Hi looking for some help with a Qjet stamped (7054918). It should be from a 72 350, however I'm not confident as I bought the car in pieces. I'm missing what I think is the choke pulloff rod, i have a picture just can't post it. I'd be happy to send it anyone.

I think I need R68 which is pictured in the link below.

http://www.carburetion.com/Quads/chokepull.asp

if anyone can provide a picture of their carb or a reference of a good Qjet shop/store I sure would appreciate it.

My personal email gterhorst@chatsworth.com

ps how/can I post a picture as an image (without a url for it)

7054918 is not a 72 Corvette carb, or any Corvette carb, as far as I can tell.

If it was for any 1972 model year GM car, the 4th digit would be a 2, not a 4. The 4 as the 4th digit, indicates that it's a 74 carb, but the number does not match any 74 Corvette carb, so it most be from some other 1974 GM car.

72 350 Q-Jet numbers are 7042203 & 7042903 with a 4 speed, and 7042202 or 7042902 with an automatic.

Posting a picture will probably help you get the best answer.

Got to Photobucket.com, and create a free account. You can then upload your pictures there. After uploading, look for the 'share' tab. Copy the 'IMG' code, it should copy it for you automatically if you click on it. Then go to your post, and paste the 'IMG' code into it.

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2447&ppt=C0359

Found this on O'Reilly's Web Site.

The Tab lists the S/N you have and in the Compatibility Tab says 72, Corvette, V8 - 5.7L vin K 350ci.
.
Corvette Black Book and Catalog of Chevy V-8 Engine Casting Numbers 1955-1993 doesn't list that S/N.

Thanks for the info on the pics, Here is the link

It is a vin K so I guess that makes sense - on another web site (forgot which one) I found that SN was listed as a service part for corvette.

Anyway still need to find the correct choke pulloff rod

Would you humor me and double check that carb number? It doesn't seem to make any sense to me, you may have misread it. Then again, it might be some weird factory replacement carb, or some damn thing.

I don't think the carb # matters, it's not the original, and it's obvious that it's a divorced choke style q-jet.

That said, it appears that you are missing a number of parts. You are missing the secondary choke rod, and the secondary lockout, and the divorced choke coil.

My guess is that the previous owner replace the intake manifold, and the new one did not have a place to mount the divorced choke. So the previous owner removed the secondary lockout, and choke rod.

What kind of intake manifold do you have?

Petes thanks for the photo.

Mashman - its a Summit intake sum-226008. thanks for the information on missing parts.
I have the divorced coil/rod and in process of making a bracket to hold it, unless you know where I can buy one.
Still need help on finding the correct choke pull off rod.

In the above picture isnt that the secondary lockout (stamped with 42723)?
or below with my finger on it?

Look at B & C, that looks like the fast idle cam.

I believe that is the fast idle cam you are pointing at. It appears that the fast idle cam is on in your picture, in my picture below, the fast idle is off, and you can just see the top of it.

Here is a picture of my carb, it's a 7042202, and should be pretty much the same as yours.

Here are a couple of pictures of the secondary choke rod - there is no number stamped on it.

So, did you ever figure out if that was the actual carb number? You may need it to get the right rebuilt kit, etc.

Well I know what it is stamped on it...7054918 - I confirmed that. it doesn't follow normal numbering, comes up in several locations as "service part". The engine fires, carb/fuel pump works well enough at idle, after a few more adjustments/connections and I'll test it on the street.

OK, I think I may have found it!! According to the list of carb numbers in Lars Grimsrud's "How to Tune a Q-Jet", carb #17054918 is a Chevy SR (service replacement??) for 1972 Corvettes, Novas, and Camaros with 402-454 engines. The number is 17054918, maybe the 1 didn't get stamped hard enough, or is unreadable for some other reason. (although, it could just be some weirdo carb, I guess.) Primary jets--77, primary rods--48, power piston spring--7036019, secondary rods--CM. If I could see a picture of it, I could tell if it's a 70 or a 170, but I can't view pics on this computer, I'm at work, (he he, goofing off behind the boss's back!!)

Go with Sean Murphy Induction. He has done numerous Q-Jets for me and his work is outstanding.
