So I have resolved all of my hot start starter issues. Now I am addressing fuel issues.
I insulated the fuel lines to the pump and this helped get fuel to the carb. I drove the car today and got it hot. stopped for about 5 minutes and it would turn over but not start. Removed air cleaner and verified that fuel was squirting out when the accelerator pump was hit. However, even 5 or 10 shots would not start it. If I hit it with starter fluid it would cough and sputter and start though.
I have alum. heads and performer intake. Could it be that the intake is getting so hot that the fuel flashes off or something?
I bought a heat shield for the carb but dont think that will help since I have fuel in the bowl. Do I need an air gap manifold or an oil cooler perhaps?
A speed shop guy told me that the "winter blend of gas" has a lower boiling point and I need to wait for summer blend higher boiling point gas. IDK WTF to think.
Well, knock on wood, but I think the gas was part of the issue. I went to a station that is on an interstate and got the 87 grade in hopes it would be freshest "summer gas". Drove around and then parked and even 10 min and 15 min later it starts.
I doubt gas was my only issue or it seems like all of us with carbs would have this issue. However, I must be on the cusp or something and the higher boiling point gas helps.
Install a thermal insulator between the carb. and intake,
about 1/4" thick composite, it will greatly reduce the carb. temp.
which will eliminate fuel boiling in the carb.
