Default Oil fill question

Hello all, had my 1980 vette 2 months now and check the oil every weekend before and the level is fine, but.... I went looking for the place to add oil and the only place is the breather hole that attaches to the air filter cover. These are are after market valve covers. Dumb question of the day is..... do I add oil here ? please dont laugh I am new
Thanks Robert

Dont know what your valve covers look like but just about all of them have some sort of removeable plug or cap where you add oil

Older small block Chevy engines had a tube in the front of the intake to add oil and had a breather on top. The valve covers designed for these engines did not have a fill cap. If your valve covers do not have a cap to add oil then you will have to use a very small funnel to add it through the breather hole. Go slow as there may be a baffle inside the cover that will slow down the oil as it goes in. mike...

I guess you'll have to take a valve cover off and make a hole in it that you can put some sort of cover on or in, or get some new valve covers that aren't crazy.

Yes...you will have to pour it in the breather hole or the PCV hole. If they have baffles, it takes FOREVER to fill because you have to go extremely slow.

Most after market valves covers can be drilled with a 1.22" hole for an oil fill cap. Like dgruenke said using the pvc hole is a slow go becouse of the baffle. Remove your valve cover and look inside. There may be a guide on the inside to show you where to drill the hole for the oil fill cap.
