About a year ago I discovered a '79 in a junkyard by the side of the road. A few months ago I went there to see if I could check it out. The owner was very rude, would not let us even look at it, He said it was in "storage."
Now, how is a classic Corvette in a pile of weeds, with the windows OPEN, in storage ??
Even if it was for sale, I could not afford to restore such a basket case. But I drove by it again yesterday and couldn't help but feel alittle annoyed that some people can just go on about there business while such a [potentially] beatiful car rots away. :mad
People like that really bother me, when I was a kid I really wanted a 57 Chevy. I found one rotting away which the owner wouldn't let go, it had weeds growing in it, but all the windows and chrome were still there :cry
Maybe we should have a forum get together in Trenton and show up at closing time, maybe show him the error of his evil ways. :jester
It's his business. But just the same, it feels wrong. I'm like you. I see a car, any decent car that's rotting away or neglected, and I feel bad. I always picture it when it was new, on the showroom floor, the apple of someone's eye. And now, here it is, left to die. Sad stuff. :cry
Guys. Tis a sad thing to see, but like Joe said it belongs to them. At least they could put them out of sight for people like us who can see the potential. JCL :yesnod: "Sidepipes are the way"
True, it is HIS personal property to do with as he pleases. I was thinking the same thing as I posted that. Buuuuut . . . . It is still very sad to see such things go to waste. You would think that the present owners would at least want to stabilize its condition. I mean, how much time/money would it take to put some plastic in the windows and keep the rain from totally destroying the inside, latch the hood properly, I mean heck, just put a cheap tarp over the whole car and give it SOME protection from the elements.
C3 Shark Tank- Sorry that you didn't get your hands on that 57, those are cool cars. Whatever happened to it? Did it just fall apart.
That Forum gathering sounds like a pretty good idea. How many members do you think it would take to convince him to let it go? :D
It doesn't bother me at all that these people don't ever do anything with the cars. It really only bothers me a little that they let them rot away because THEY own it. What bothers me is their motivation in leaving the car where people can see them. I've noticed two types here. the ones that are just looking for human interaction and wait for someone to stop and talk to them. Those type are always nice but they are still wasting your time. The second type are the ones that are obviously looking for someone to pick on. They are always nasty and act all offended that you would bother them. In reality they like to sucker you in just to tell you to go to he!!. I never stop anymore, it's just not worth it. I figure any car that can be seen from the road has already suckered in someone before me. The real gems are the ones hidden in barns and garages that no one ever sees.
I was chasing a '67 that was rotting away in a barn with 1/4 of the rear end sticking out the back of the barn (C3 Shark Tank knows all about it) and they guy wouldn't budge. Fianlly he gave me a price $20,000. Yeah right! The last time I drove past it he had built fence arond the front of the barn so people couldn't see it. No gate just a fence so to move the car you'd have to tear down the fence. Guess he got tired of people asking about it. But to build a fence to MAKE SURE IT ROTS AWAY. That's just plain stupid in my opinion.
