I replaced my mech fuel pump with an electric one. I was really easy to do, in fact, my mech. pump is still is place. I just bolted my elec. pump above the mech one and rerouted all the lines. Ran the wires from the MSD to it. Got it on and running with no more than 30 min worth of work.
Your best location for it is back near the tank pushing fuel forward, and a regualtor near the carb....
regulator insures against too much pressure knocking needle valves off seats...some pumps put out as much as 10 lbs pressure...way too much...
second is on a hot day the sucking of the pump from up front can cause vaporlock....so pressureise everything to stop that....
One nice thing about the elelctric fuel pump is you need to work on the carb you can shut off the pump and run the fuel down in the carb. This saves on spilled gas.

The only problem that I have with switching to electric is that cars that have elect from the factory have a fail safe switch that if you have a wrech the switch cuts off the pump so it doesn't keep pumping fuel after the motor has stoped.
Why Why Why if you need to spend money that bad You can always invite me to a ball game and we can talk Vettes. Only reason you would go to electric pump is if you instal fuel injection. Stick to orginal
I will agree with 73-454. Unless you are running a 850cfm double pumper at 6000+ or a dominator, mechanical pumps will keep up with the demands of the carb and engine. An example, the LS-6 and L-88's both used stock mechanical pumps. That's my 2 cents.

this is why I stayed mechanical.....I have seen too many cars on fire with high shooting flames, due to an electric pump, pumping away !!!
If I did install one I would put a on/off switch under the rear tire well for it.
It could be used as an anti-theft device then too !!!! :yesnod:
i just installed an on/off switch for the efp..it is where my defrrost button would be if i had one beside the heater a/c controller..it lights up when on and not when off..this adds as an extra thieft device, the vette wount run unless the person knows to turn this on :) my vette had an efp when i got it and ive had no problems with it so far..i just rewired it straight to the battery for a better connection... BUBBA WAS\ THERE BEFORE ME AND HAD IT WIRED TO THE A/C CONTROLLER WHICH IVE NOW RE-HOOKED UP SO I HAD TO REWIRE THE EFP PROPPERLY.......THAT DAMM BUBBA...
